Beer vs Rock

There are rock bands so good that you'd go see them even if it were at a venue that did not serve alcohol.

HIATVS is not one of those bands and we humbly and fully embrace that reality. In fact, we exploit the synergism between our musical performances and the beer consumption that seems to amplify its quality sometimes as much as five fold.

HIATVS wanted to take a moment to pay tribute to one of our most favorite songs. We love covering it at shows.

Here it is.

A Hiatus Update

HIATVS time bandit AquaMunkee materialized in Madison WI on New Year's Day Sunday with an astounding array of new song ideas gathered during his recent travels into the near future. He and Manwich spent the afternoon cataloguing a few of the ones obtained in early March 2017, soon after the conclusion of February Album Writing Month.

"The songs were going to be written anyway," Aqua said. "We are just going to be too busy during the actual FAWM to commit the necessary time. I gathered the fragmented bits and pieces of the song ideas generated during our first pass of the foreshortened FAWM period and time warped them back to early January, when we have more time to flesh them out."

The harnessing of time travel through the time/space rending potency of HIATVS's rock-n-roll has proven valuable for the band's progress.

"We jump around through time a lot," said Manwich. "It's the major limitatation on our ability to actually promote our rare performances. Based on the fluctuations in the wormhole networks, our next show is a house concert we'll host in late May of 2015. I hope you were there."

Manwich then time warped forward to Saturday January 7th and played bass with YOUR MOM as they hosted a birthday party for infamous local celebrity Cactus Joe.

"It was an awesome shindig," Manwich said, upon returning to the present. "Due to the time looping thing, I am able to promote the party over and over a couple days in advance, which probably explains how packed the place was...or will be, I guess, since it hasn't happened yet for anyone but me. But, yeah, it's a phenomenal good time."

The party is at 9 PM on 1/7/17 @ the Come Back Inn in Madison WI.

"You'll be there," Manwich confirmed. "I saw you."

Substitute Rocking

HIATVS has been thinking about coming off hiatus some time in May or June of 2016, by way of a rocknroll house party. Stay tuned.

In the meanwhile...

Our sister band GUPPY EFFECT is playing a rock-n-roll show worthy of HIATVS’s endorsement this Friday Jan. 8th. Not only is it a free show, but it’s also in the sweet zone preferred time frame of 6-9 PM on a Friday at a non-sh!tty new alternative music venue.

To wit, the Bos Meadery (849 E. Washington Ave, Madison WI), a venue favored for HIATVS's hiatus from hiatus in a few months. Should be a great way to end your work week. It's a totally free show.

The House Concert is Nigh - 5/30/15

Hello Friends, Fans, and Jeebi.

In just about 30 hours from now, HIATVS will unleash their innard quaking, face melting fun rock-n-roll on the attendees of the house concert at Chez Manwich.

We sure hope you can come.

Check out the new short funny video HIATVS just uploaded to the Kickstarter campaign.

www.kickstarter.com/projects/476400861/a-hiatvs-house-concert

We have about 9 hours left to reach our funding goal and we are so darn close!

Can you help? Please GO HERE and check it out.

Even if you can't come, an "appreciation donation" of as little as $1 gets you a verbal callout at the house concert, and since the event will be live streamed, the entire Intarwebz will hear it.

We love you.

The Chips Are Down - Half a Day Left to RSVP!

Hey everyone!

There is only one day left to RSVP for the house concert via the Kickstarter with a suggested donation ($5).

Please do so if you are planning to attend.

GO HERE - www.kickstarter.com/projects/476400861/a-hiatvs-house-concert

The house concert is happening no matter what, but if we do not hit the funding goal for food and drink (the band is pro bono!), we will have to switch to a BYO food/drink model.

And that's fine - we have done it before - but we really prefer if you can contribute via the Kickstarter so we can hit our goal and get a good idea of head count and funding level.

Thanks and HIATVS loves you!

Rare HIATVS Appearance at Funk's Pub on Sunday May 3

Jeebi!

HIATVS takes a brief hiatus from hiatus this Sunday May 3, 2015, to play a short set at the Funk’s Pub (Fitchburg WI) open stage.

AquaMunkee is coming to town this weekend so we can rehearse for the HOUSE PARTY we are rocking on June 13 at chez Manwich (the one “real” show we come off hiatus for every year…).

After we pound out some songs at practice this Sunday afternoon, we’ll cruise on over to Funk’s and play sometime between 8 to 10 PM.

Our drummer this time around will be none other than Andrew “Fee” Gunderson, who often graces the Funk’s Pub stage.

So, don’t miss your chance to party with us on a school night, especially if you have not seen AquaMunkee in a while. He misses you…deeply…if you know what I mean.

Manwich

p.s. If all goes well, we’ll do another Funk’s jam on Sunday May 31, so if you miss this one you are still a KHAK, but you have another chance to redeem yourself.

HIATVS will be taking a rare hiatus from hiatus on Saturday June 13, 2015, as we will be returning to rock the bejeebus out of THE GARDEN PARTY in Mt. Horeb (2 - 8 PM).

Food, drink, 100 foot water slide, costumery, and the irreverent rock-n-roll of HIATVS.

Any questions? Comment below.

Substitute Rock-n-Roll

Hi HIATVS Fans!

Yes, HIATVS is still on hiatus, and while there really is no substitute, our sister band, GUPPY EFFECT, has a suitably rocking show coming up.

GUPPY EFFECT will be downstairs at the Rigby (Madison, WI) on Saturday September 13, 2014 as part of BUBBLE MUSIC FEST, a city-wide event in Madison with multiple venues and bands (September 11-13).

The discounted all access weekend passes for Bubble Music Fest are only $20 if purchased via the BUBBLE MUSIC FEST KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN. That is a huge savings. But only 2 days left to buy them because the campaign ends Sunday.

Hurry!

All venues. All bands. $20. What else are you gonna do that weekend? Nothing else is what. So come rock out with GUPPY EFFECT.

If you will unwisely be out of town that weekend, PLEASE SHARE THIS with your friends and on your FACEBOOK wall. That helps too.

Open Jam/Stage at Funk's Pub (Fitchburg, WI)

Dear Friends of HIATVS.

HIATVS is still on hiatus, but that doesn't stop us from updating you on our goings on now and then.

First off, we will be suspending the hiatus briefly on Saturday June 7, 2014, so that we can reunite to perform at a Slip-n-Slide Garden Party in Mt. Horeb WI that afternoon.

HIATVS performed at this last summer and we had a phenomenal time. There was headgear. There was a slip-n-slide. There was rampant self-expression. All of these things are on track to be there this year. You have not lived until you have donned a man thong and dived onto a slip-n-slide while being sprayed with a hose and trying to catch a hurtling football all at the same time.

It's an invite only kind of party, so drop us a line for additional deets if you are keen on coming to see us at the funnest party happening anywhere that day.

Second, for the slightly less adventurous, HIATVS's very own Manwich has been attending a weekly Sunday open jam/stage at Funk's Pub in Fitchburg with his other band, GUPPY EFFECT.

It's from 8 to 10 PM every Sunday night and it is a great time. Free admission and lots of good local bands, plus great food and beer.

If you feel like your weekend is too short (when isn't it?) and it needs that little extra push over the cliff, stop on down to Funk's for an hour or two and finish the weekend off in style before returning to the Monday grind. You know...because THE MAN don't rock!

If you are lazy or don't live within a reasonable distance of Funk's Pub, you can always watch the live stream online at ustream.tv.on Sunday nights from 8 to 10 PM. And if you can't watch it in real time, the past jams are archived HERE. Watch them at any time. We hope you can participate. So easy.

Below is a clip from a recent jam that features GUPPY EFFECT. The rocking at 21:21 is superb.

Road Tripping

I am road tripping to Milwaukee with my drummer buddy Jon and we are going to rock a wedding with the country band, DRIVEWAY THRIFTDWELLERS. Tomorrow we are road tripping up to Minocqua to play a putatively awesome Halloween party at the Minocqua Brewing Company and I am really geeked to be road tripping and rocking. Jon is a great drummer and this band is awesome too. I actually feel like I have to up my bass and vocal practice to maintain the proper performance quality this band deserves. But then we have band practice and I realize everyone is struggling with the material too and feels similarly like they have to up their game. Collectively, I think that is a good thing. We are all giving it our all and that is the stuff that awesome, successful bands are made of.

July House Party Options?

Hi Friends.

HIATVS would like to play YOUR house party in July.

We rock and we play pro bono. That means FREE in Greek. Actually, it means "for the good" in Greek. But your party is a good cause and we want to play it. So hook us up.

We are low volume but high energy, so the neighbors won't complain. We use electric drums for volume control. But we still rage and flaunt awesome headgear.

So drop us a line if you need some high quality live music at your party.

Hello Khakazzis!

The world's funnest cover band HIATVS (that's us!) is playing a house party in Mt. Horeb on Saturday June 8th.

It'd be cool if you were there. Hit us up for the deets. It's going to be outside, free, and fun.

The Rocking

Hi Hiatus Fans.

We just wanted to check in and let you know we are still rocking strong. Several bands both past and present have been inspired to write songs worthy of HIATVS's performance. Although the details are too complicated to explain here, due to the fact that our rock-n-roll warps the time space continuum, all bands who have come before us were actually writing songs for us, the greatest and best band in the world, to perform.

Don't try to analyze it. Just embrace it.

We love you.

Hockey Rock

Hi Friends!

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the hockey rock-n-roll double header with HIATVS and GUPPY EFFECT v1.0 on Saturday. We thought it was a really fun time and apparently so did you!

HIATVS is once again on hiatus (hence the name) until we decide when and where to put on our next show. Unless I miss my guess, it will probably be a house concert some time in May or early June. That will give us time to learn a bunch of new tunes to blow your mind out with.

So stay tuned.

Rocking the Hockey Moms

Tonight (2/9/13), HIATVS and GUPPY EFFECT (v1.0), two awesome Madison WI area rock-n-roll bands will be unleashing the fury at the Capitol Ice Arena in Middleton WI.

It is a youth hockey fundraiser party, open to the public. There will be thousands of dollars worth of prize giveaways in addition to the priceless rock-n-roll.

Starts at 8 PM and goes to about 11 PM (last year it went past midnight because the hockey moms were having way too much fun). So not a super late night either.

$10 gets you in the door. Then it is free food, beer, rock, and hockey games all evening long. You know that HIATVS is all about the free beer at shows. That is why we normally do house concerts, but when a venue is willing to spring for free beer, we will rock it. This is why you will almost never see us at a crappy dive bar, and we are OK with that. GUPPY EFFECT is frosting on the cake.

You can buy raffle tickets at the fundraiser to try to win cash prizes of up to $3000. Yeah, that's 3 zeroes after that 3. We would love to see you there and rock you, regardless.

CLICK HERE FOR THE FACEBOOK INVITE.

See ya.

Why HIATVS Loves Performing Rock-n-Roll House Concerts

My band HIATVS pretty much only plays ROCK-N-ROLL HOUSE CONCERTS. We will occasionally play a public venue if it is a really worthy cause. But house concerts are where it is at for us.

On paper, you know all the "official" reasons. Free food and beer, consequence free environment, comfy chairs and friendly people, clean bathrooms, dates and times of our own convenience, and great music.

But there is one reason we love playing house concerts that trumps them all. And tonight, you are going to find out what it is...

So be there.

6 to 10 PM in Madison WI. Bring a little something to share.

A Stupidly Clever Way to Support HIATVS This Holiday Season

What's up?

The holidays are nigh upon us. HAPPY HOLIDAZE!

We will be celebrating them all at once on Saturday 11/17, when we throw our ROCK-N-ROLL (HOLIDAY) HOUSE CONCERT, as many of you already know.

We thank you for supporting the house concert music model, even if you only did so in spirit, but especially if you contributed to the awesome vision. You are awesome! House concerts are where it is at for live music and ours are the best (and for now, the only ones around here) house concerts.

There's another stupidly clever and easy way to support our rocking mission and vision.

I posted a link to GUPPY EFFECT's holiday cult classic rock single "Gingerbread (Zombie) Army" over there, upper right, as you can plainly see.

But I'm not asking you to download it or do really anything at all. I mean, you can. It's a clever good song. But that's not why it's there.

All I want you to do is click on the GINGERBREAD (ZOMBIE) ARMY thumbnail over there.

That's it.

Because in full disclosure, it helps support this blog and all the musical endeavors we undertake, albeit only a tiny tiny bit, but at no cost to you.

When you click that link, it will just stick a temporary 72 hour totally benign cookie on your computer (from Amazon...they put cookies on your computer all the time, and you don't even know it...they mean us no harm...they just want us to buy stuff!), and if you should happen to buy anything at all at Amazon in that time window, Amazon will credit us (specifically, Manwich, the brains of the operation) a small kickback (like 4% or something).

It's a percentage of their profit margin, not an extra cost to your already skyrocketing holiday shopping bill.

It ain't much. But it's free and effortless (for you). It would be totally uncool if it wasn't.

But this way is totally cool, because unbeknownst to you (although, now 'knownst, since I am telling you), Amazon pays us for the favor of sending them traffic (you). It's totally passive and is just a way for Amazon to thank us for sending people to their site to buy stuff.

Isn't that stupidly clever?

I mean, Christmas is coming. Some of you are undoubtedly going to buy stuff from Amazon, because its quick and easy and mostly because it avoids the malls and all the heinous and disgusting people who are roaming there.

So why not help out awesome rock-n-roll while doing what you would be doing anyway?

Just click the thumbnail there, and then close whatever new web browser window pops up (It'll be AMAZON, trust me). Then totally forget about it.

That's it!

2 clicks of the mouse (maybe 2 seconds of your life, depending on how fast your Internet connection is) and HIATVS' rock-n-roll gets supported by THE MAN. It doesn't get any better than that (certainly not until after the New Year).

With the holidays fast approaching, chances are you will end up inadvertently buying something on Amazon within the next three days, and in so doing you passively support our musical and creative activities with your blind consumerism.

When it happens, you won't even think about it. Technology does the rest.

In fact, if you are planning to shop at Amazon any time this holiday season, stop by this site first (bookmark it), and click the thumbnail.

And like I said, if you want to download GUPPY EFFECT's rock-n-roll holiday anthem GINGERBREAD (ZOMBIE) ARMY, all the better. It is good for a $0.99 cent laugh.
